When I heard Enrique’s new “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)” song, I noticed there was something weird.
The lyrics say:
“Please excuse me I don’t mean to be rude…but tonight I’m lovin you”.
I wondered: “why would loving someone be rude”?
Then I noticed there’s an explicit version of the song:
“Please excuse me I don’t mean to be rude…but tonight I’m fuckin’ you”.
Well that explains why the original version doesn’t add up.
I kinda prefer the “clean” version. Someone like Pitbull, Ludacris or Chris Brown could have pulled it off better than Enrique who kinda has a “romantic boy” image.
This got me thinking about other songs that were censored:
– Akon’s “I Wanna Love You”:
He actually says “I Wanna Fuck You” in the dirty version. But I don’t like the “fuck”. The melody is so slow jam and romantic, so maybe keepin “love” would have been better. But honestly, what do you expect from a guy talkin to a girl dancing on a stripper pole?
– Britney’s “If you seek Amy”:
Even though she doesn’t say “FUCK” and only pronounces it, the lyrics were changed to “If you see Amy”! Now THAT was fucked up. How does that even make sense? Pffft.
– Cee-lo Green’s “Fuck You”:
Many people know it now as “Forget you”. At first I was angry they censored it, but I’m still down with “Forget you”. I’m liking it.
– Eamon’s “Fuck It (I Don’t Want You Back)”:
My first experience with a “fuck song”. Loved it. Such an angry honest song. I don’t think it would have had the same impact without the “fuck”.
– Greg Parys’s “Why Don’t We Just Fuck?”:
We’re used to men being so forward saying they wanna “fuck” a girl. But thankfully, there are some songs where women also talk dirty unabashedly (like Khia’s go-down-on-me-lick-my-pussy-make-me-cum-hard song “My Neck My Back”).
“Why Don’t We Just Fuck?” is a song where a woman tells the man to cut to the chase and…FUCK! Lyrics are:
“Écoute-moi bien chéri
Je n’ai pas toute la nuit
Toi tu parles depuis des heures
Et moi je pars dans un quart d’heure
J’dois prendre l’avion, j’rentre à New York
So, why don’t we just fuck?”
– Lilly Allen’s “Fuck You”:
Obviously taking the “fuck” out of this song when played on the radio made it meaningless. What an awesome song.
Songs shouldn’t be censored. It bugs me so much when I hear a curse-free “Love the Way You Lie” on the radio, for example. It’s an angry love/hate song and hearing the clean version just isn’t as satisfying.
There are a couple of songs which include “fuck” that I dislike, but I prefer to hate them for what they are rather than like them for what they aren’t.
Keep the shits and fucks.
