The following is an invitation for an event that was supposed to happen this Friday at Life Bar, a well known bar in the Beirut’s gay community:
To whoever wrote this…What the fuck is wrong with you?
“Be Sinkara or Milenga”? “They do work all the month to get it”?
What the fuck is wrong with you?
It’s gay people who have made your bar the success that it is. Gay people who, just like “Sinkara” and “Milenga” are oppressed, made fun of, bullied, and beat up everyday.
Would you like it if a bar wrote this invitation? “This Friday night, be foufou and louteh. Create your own fag costume. Speak like them. Walk like them. Talk like them. Look like a tobjeh.”
You’ve made your bar a safe haven for gays who want to feel free and unchained for a couple of hours. So it’s even more shameful that such an offensive “party invitation” could come from a place who supposedly spreads tolerance and equality!
You should know better.
What the fuck is wrong with you?

A formal apology has since been issued by club owner:
Dear (recipient) ,
please accept this letter as a formal apology for what happened on the 23rd of january 2012 and the invitation for the maid imitating event that was scheduled to be on the 27th of January 2012 and Life Bar Cancelled it.
It was not my intention to cause any damage or inconvenience . In retrospect , I believe the situation resulted from a misunderstanding , we usually create funny events in which our clients imitate different personalities and win prizes , we only thought to organize this competition just like any other organised at life bar before , without any intention of disrespect or discrimination or racism.
Life Bar respect every single human being regardless of their colour , race, sex ,job or nationality. While this is by no means an excuse for what happened , knowing the cause will help us guard against future mistakes.
Sincerely,
Cynthia M.

Salem B.B…..thanks for posting this….it is beyond reason, why anyone in the LGBT community would think this was a “good idea”….WTF??? As you’ve stated, we are supposed to be the community that understands to devasting effect of discrimination and abuse!!! The last thing any of “us” should be doing is mocking those who also endure such horror!!! Bless you! Max
Seriously??
jahanam wa bi2s al-maseer
Jahanam wa bi2sa al-maseer
Oh my…this is AWFUL!
you make a great point…you would think they’d have some empathy!
allow me to add something
i am offended by this event not just because life bar is a gay friendly bar and it is not suppose to oppress minorities like gays and migrant workers
i will definetly be offended buy a regular bar in gemayzeh or hamra spreading racism
these bar are stealing our money with a total capitalist perspective using the gay friendly title to attract more customers and not because they are gay friendly or they want to abolish 534 and now they are spreading racism making fun of migrant workers who must be cleaning this shitty bar and cynthia mehann’s toilet and seat
any bar to be gay friendly or not is not allowed to spread racism we are in the 21st century and life bar is making money through racism fuck life bar fuck capitalism and fuck lebanon
I just noticed that an apology was issued:

Whether they meant it or not, words have more impact than people care to believe.
Agreed.
But I’m glad they apologized
They don’t know any better, you can’t blame simple minds.
Anyway, I resent that bar…
Think a boycott campaign is needed here. I have a lot to resent about that bar now. It should never even be suggested that racism can be fun. Boycotting the bar would show members of our society who think this is tolerable, that in fact, it isn’t. In any country where human rights are respected, such a party invite would have caused legal action against the bar owner.
