Song of the Week: Come on-a My House

Warning: this song is VERY addictive

I first heard this song in the movie Swept Away starring Madonna & directed by Guy Ritche.

Come on-a My House is actually written by Armenian writer William Saroyan & by Armenian artist Ross Bagdasarian, and is based on an Armenian folk song. The song refers to the Armenian tradition of inviting over friends and offering them fruits and all types of foods.

Song of the weel: Come on-a my house - Rosemary Clooney

Come on-a My House actually dates back to 1951 when Rosemary Clooney sang it. But I like this version better, sung by Della Reese!

Lyrics:

Come on-a my house my house, I’m gonna give you candy
Come on-a my house, my house, I’m gonna give you a apple and a plum and a apricot-a too eeey
