“Stop Destroying Your Heritage!” is a group I found on Facebook yesterday.
The group’s aim is to “preserve our beautiful authentic and traditional Lebanese houses”, and they’re organizing an event on September 25 called “Symbolic Walk with Candles”.
Time: 6 pm till 7 pm
Location: From Gemmayze to Mar Mekhayel
As we speak, old vintage Lebanese houses are getting teared down.
And it’s such a shame because they could easily be revamped to become brand new again.
So if you’re interested in stopping the destruction of these beautiful Lebanese houses, you should definitely consider being part of the walk!
A walk from Gemmayze to Mar Mekhayel will only take you 15 minutes tops.
Cool posters from the event supplied by Pascale Ingea, the group creator!

UPDATE: Check out what happened at the event HERE!
hope this walk will stop the destroying of the vintage buildings…
I hope the government finally decides to take action and fix this mess.
Saddly :
1- preserve the old memory is a priority for sure. Especially in Lebanon where they are mistreated by everyone. It’s a country who refuse to learn from her past … so these houses are important.
2- your politics don’t/won’t give a shit about these houses. Especially because they got money themselves by the building companies when they let them do whatever they want.
3- anyway, there are bigger priorities : health, child, nutrition, education … you know ? the basics of a society survival ?
I hope that you won’t get me wrong, but, this “énième” facebook crap won’t change anything, it’s a waste of time, energy, resources, for a bunch of “bobo” who should try to help on the bigger plan.
Lebanon is a jewel … and yet, it’s at the third world country rank .. for f.. sake !! Wake up lebanese !! You have kids in your streets or worst in the middle of the highway, sending their hand for charity !!!
“getting histerical”
YA ALLAH !! isn’t this more important than old houses who will NO MATTER WHAT disappear !!!?
… pfff …
you definitely have a point of view here and its very true…
I hear you. Health care, poverty, pickin up children from the streets are ALL issues that should be fought for.
Preserving traditional Lebanese houses is also important in my opinion. They represent Beirut. They have history. They’ve survived the wars. They have a story to tell. They could easily undergo a face lift and become brand new again.
