Dark Skinned & Voluptuous is Beautiful.

Gabourey Sidibes

Let’s be honest here.

Who do you mostly see on fashion magazine covers?

White women.

Correction: thin white women.

Gabourey Sidibes is NOT white.

Gabourey Sidibes is NOT thin.

Gabourey Sidibes is BEAUTIFUL

And she is a breath of fresh air on the cover of Elle Magazine.

Why Elle decided to airbrush her photo and make her “less dark skinned” is just fucked up.

Why Elle decided to show her from the breasts-up and not capture her curves is equally as fucked up.

People are always going to complain.

As you said ‘she is a breath of fresh air on the cover of Elle Magazine’ and we should give props to Elle for featuring her on the cover.

The photoshop is for aesthetic reasons. If they were to put a body shot, they would have to photoshop her body which would also backfire on them.

Beauty sells. And a magazine that doesn’t sell is soon to be out of print.

“The photoshop is for aesthetic reasons”.

But it’s not a pimple they’re hiding, they’re playing with a girl’s skin color. Millions of women have a dark skin color. What’s the message Elle is sending to them?

It’s just disappointing, Joseph. Maybe instead of thinking about “how to sell more issues”, they should think about how to stand out from other magazines, and show women of ALL colors without making their skin lighter.

I love curves for the record, but I don’t find her very cute 😦

I have to say, I agree with you on the issue of air brushing her skin color to make it lighter. It is disturbing to see something like that…..but then again, considering Elle actually targets white women the most, you can see how you would expect this to be something they would naturally do.
