Nadine Labaki directed Nancy Agram’s “Yey (Sehr 3youno)” and “Lawn 3younak” music videos.
A gay character was portrayed as Nancy’s close gay friend in those two videos!
Even though it was a stereotypical gay character (a feminine hair dresser who catches Nancy’s bouquet when she throws it at her wedding), the fact that the character was included in the video means a lot.
I’m not sure if Nadine and Nancy are all-out gay supporters (hence the question mark next to Gay Supporters) but you gotta hand it to them for including a gay character and not care if they receive some backlash for doing so.
Just hope (non stereotypical) gay characters get to be included in Lebanese artists’ music videos more often.
Watch “Yey (Sehr 3youno)” and “Lawn 3younak”!
**crosses fingers** here is to hoping =P
They might not be full out supporters, but like you said, the fact that they added them is a huge step, especially in Arab countries.
But considering the fact that their main fans are Arabs, i think the only way it could be done was if the character was stereotypical.
We were in the same school – he’s about two years younger than me. I could pretty much say that it wasn’t an act.
Well Nadine also had a lesbian couple in her movie! =)
